The ‘Curve Ball’

The good news is that we’re pregnant. Now here’s the curve ball… It’s twins.

That was one pitch neither of us expected.

It was 28 October 2016. Aaron was still playing competitively at an international level, coming off the back of the 2015 Mens World Championships in Saskatoon, Canada. I was looking forward to taking a step back from competitive softball to focus on my career.

Even though that ‘fire’ still burned inside of him, he went full ‘Dad mode’ and decided to shift his focus to his family. Aaron voluntarily retired from his international Softball Career at the 2017 TAB Cup Challenge in Auckland, New Zealand. Very admirable by him… It is pretty clear that he loves playing for the Aussie Steelers and as you can see from the video below, the end of his last international game was a very emotional affair.

When life throws you a curve ball, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime to hit it out of the park! – Unknown

Fast forward to the present day and we are the proud parents of two beautiful little girls. Aaron still has the ‘itch’ to play competitively and I am still trying to get back into pitching shape after my post-partum recovery.

We both still love the game. A few coaching opportunities have been provide to both of us, BUT babies (let alone two of them) make it very difficult to leave the house.

Enter the Virtual Softball Coach.

We’re using technology to connect to you – send us a video, ask us questions, video conference with us. This new way of coaching is now possible with smartphones, cameras and faster internet speeds. Coaching via video analysis can target:

  • Hitting – technique, maximising power, identification of weaknesses
  • Pitching – technique, speed, consistency, telegraphing pitches
  • Fielding – footwork, speed, transfers

In return, we will provide drills and return videos to assist you with your next training session.

So, this is how we’re adjusting to the curve ball that was thrown to us.

And now we are looking forward to helping you adjust to the next curve ball that gets thrown to you!
